Dozens of graders, plows and sanders are making their way into Saskatoon’s residential neighbourhoods a full day earlier than expected.
According to an update from the City of Saskatoon, snow clearing progressed faster than anticipated on Tuesday, and crews were able to make their way into the first residential areas overnight.
Information from the city indicated that more than 55 centimetres of snow fell over the past six days, making many residential roads and lanes impassable for smaller vehicles and prompting the activation of the city’s Roadways Emergency Response Plan.
Snow piles will be left on medians, parking lanes and boulevards, the city said, while driveways will have a break in the snow piles wide enough for a car to pass.
Once residential areas have been cleared, lanes that are currently inaccessible will be either leveled or graded.
No decision has been made yet on whether the city will be removing the snow piles. That will depend on the weather conditions in the coming days, the city noted.
A list of neighbourhoods where snow clearing is currently taking place is available on the city’s website.
