While Rolan Milligan wasn’t set to become a free agent in a few days, the Saskatchewan Roughriders want to keep him under contract for even longer.
The CFL club announced the 29-year-old defensive back has signed a one-year extension, meaning his contract will not expire until after the 2025 season.
The product of Lake Wales, Fla. played in four games for the Riders in 2023, suffering a foot injury in Week 5 against the Edmonton Elks. That injury ended his season.
In just those four games, Milligan recorded 17 tackles, and two interceptions.
Milligan enjoyed a breakout season in 2022, recording 71 defensive tackles, 11 special-teams tackles, one sack, one interception, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and a team-high eight pass knockdowns over 17 games.
Milligan signed with the Riders in 2021 after spending five seasons in the NFL, where he spent time with the Dallas Cowboys, Detroit Lions and Indianapolis Colts.
The Riders have 17 players set to hit free agency when it opens on Feb. 13.
