A small toy created some big trouble in Saskatoon’s College Park neighbourhood this week.
According to the Saskatoon Fire Department, an electronic component in a small toy – powered by AA alkaline batteries – failed on Wednesday, sparking a house fire that caused an estimated $150,000 in damages.

The fire department was called to the home on Anderson Crescent shortly before 9 a.m. after the fire broke out in the home’s basement. The blaze was quickly brought under control, the fire department said, and the occupants and several pet cats weren’t hurt.
A fire inspector concluded the cause was accidental, due to the malfunction inside the electronic toy.
