Some Saskatchewan drivers apparently had a bit too much Christmas cheer over the holidays.
SGI revealed Wednesday that police around the province reported 414 impaired driving offences in December, thanks in part to check stops and other tactics. The total included 240 Criminal Code charges of impaired driving and 174 sanctions such as licence suspensions and vehicle impoundments.
The Crown insurance company reminded drivers of the legal limits for alcohol (.04 blood-alcohol content for experienced drivers, .00 blood-alcohol content for new drivers) and drugs (zero tolerance for all drivers).
“The holidays may be over, but finding a safe ride is something that drivers should do year-round,” SGI said in a media release.
“Impaired driving offences come with a wide range of penalties that can wreck your budget, but an impaired driving collision can destroy so much more than that.”
In December, Saskatchewan police also handed out 2,931 tickets for speeding and aggressive driving, 491 tickets for distracted driving (including 411 for using a cellphone while driving), 254 tickets for seatbelt and occupant restraint offences, and 80 tickets for driving without due care and attention.
