The Horizon School Division has fired an employee after more than $4,600 went missing in March of this year.
On Friday, the Ministry of Education reported one loss of public money in the fourth quarter of the 2021-22 fiscal year, which ended Aug. 31.
According to the ministry, $4,620 was misappropriated from the Horizon School Division, which operates 41 schools in east-central Saskatchewan.
“The school division conducted an investigation and verified the cash in question was not deposited to the banking institution over a three-month period,” the ministry said in a release. “The incident was reported to the RCMP and an employee has been terminated. The cash has not been recovered.”
The school and community involved were not identified.
Since the incident, the division has reviewed its cash-handling and fiscal management procedures with the administration of the school involved.
