Prince Albert Police have confirmed the victim of a violent assault in the city’s midtown neighbourhood last weekend, has died.
David Maxemiuk, 61, was rushed to hospital last Sunday with what were described then as serious, life threatening injuries. Maxemiuk was robbed and attacked near his home in the 200 block of Ninth St. E., shortly after parking his car in his garage. His family later told paNOW he suffered severe head and chest trauma, and did not wake up since the attack.
Kenny Donald Morin, 20, was arrested in connection to the case and was charged with robbery and aggravated assault. Police have indicated the charges will be amended accordingly. In a news release, they have also said no other suspects are being sought.
“The Prince Albert Police Service would like to thank the public for assisting police in locating video surveillance in relation to this file. Investigators are interested in hearing from anyone else who may have information related to this incident,” police said.
Morin is scheduled to make his next court appearance on Wednesday at Prince Albert Provincial Court. In the meantime, a GoFundMe page was created to help the victim’s family with funeral costs and other expenses. The organizer described Maxemiuk as someone who was loved by everyone who knew him.
“Nobody could fathom the thought that such a caring and loving man would be taken away,” she said.
