A Saskatoon man who pleaded guilty to 40 child pornography-related charges has been handed more prison time by Saskatchewan’s Court of Appeal.
Philip Chicoine was sentenced in 2017 to 12 years.
The Crown had sought a 17-year sentence and filed an appeal, arguing 12 years did not reflect the gravity of the offences or his moral culpability.
In a ruling released Wednesday, the Court of Appeal increased Chicoine’s sentence to 15 years.
Court heard that Chicoine met women online in Romania and the Philippines and told them how to abuse children while he watched.
He paid $23,000 dollars for photos, videos and livestreaming of the abuse.
