Wendel Clark will soon be known for something other than hockey in Saskatchewan.
The former NHLer is bringing his restaurant brand to the province.
Clark told 650 CKOM Wednesday a Saskatoon group will be opening a Wendel Clark’s Classic Grill and Bar in the New Year.
The restaurant, located at the former Tony Roma’s on Circle Drive, will be the first franchise for the chain outside Ontario.
Clark said its a sports bar first, but will also be a place to go for a nice night out.
“I think it’s great. It’s a hockey town and people like food,” said Clark, who became a household name playing for the Saskatoon Blades and later in the NHL with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
“The main thing is provide great food and service.”
The Kelvington native got into the restaurant business after he retired from the NHL in 2000.
Clark said he plans to visit the new Saskatoon location once it opens.
As Clark puts it, he likes to stay involved in his restaurants, but not too involved.
“The good thing is you won’t see me cooking. You don’t want me back in the kitchen,” he joked.
Saskatoon is the fourth franchise for the restaraunt chain which includes locations in Brampton, Burlington and Hamilton.
Clark said they’re also looking at expansion opportunities in Mississauga and Oshawa.
