Nearly three months after announcing a change in ownership, the Cave, a landmark restaurant on Eighth Street in Saskatoon, is expected to reopen and continue operating under the same brand.
The restaurant first opened in September of 1973 and quickly gained popularity thanks to its unique, prehistoric-themed atmosphere.

George Kosmas, who has managed the restaurant for 25 years, said he’s very excited to be back in the Cave and once again doing what he loves.
Kosmas joined host Mark Loshack on the CKOM Morning Show on Thursday to share the details.
The following questions and answers have been edited for length and clarity.
GEORGE KOSMAS: Over the course of the last month, I’ve been in contact with the new property owners. They saw the news surrounding it, and they approached me about taking over the restaurant and reopening it as a restaurant, and we struck a deal. I’m very excited to be back in the game and serving Saskatoon once again. So the Cave is back. We have a few hurdles to jump, but we’re expecting to open up this weekend. It will be the same food, same menu and same people. We look forward to seeing all our friends again.
MARK LOSHACK: Have you hired all of the staff back?
KOSMAS: We’re talking with previous staff and trying to pull back everybody to see if they’ve had plans to come join us.
Are you going to have a great big celebration, or a grand reopening?
KOSMAS: We’re just going to quietly open our doors and do our thing. We’ve never been too much for showing all that. We got to get our feet wet a little bit and remember how to do everything again. It’ll be a process.
When do you think operations are going to get underway? What has to happen?
KOSMAS: We’re hoping to clear our government hurdles. We are getting our health inspection done, our liquor inspection done and a few minor details. We will start making our sauces and making sure that they’re up to our standards. Then we can open the doors.
