Around 50 people gathered outside of Saskatoon’s only Tesla dealership on Saturday as part of a Tesla Takedown’s Global Day of Action — the latest demonstration by those who object to the role Tesla CEO Elon Musk has played in the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump.
Protests were expected in Canadian cities including Ottawa, Montreal, Saskatoon, Winnipeg and Halifax, as well as four scheduled in B.C.’s Lower Mainland over the weekend.

Musk heads the U.S. Department of Government Efficiency and has been tied to controversies that include publicly voicing support for the far-right Alternative for Germany party and laying off thousands of federal workers.
In Saskatoon, protesters carried various signs that took aim at Musk, with telling him to go to Mars, and some calling him a lemon.
Protest organizer Jason Hanson said the demonstration was not meant to harm those who work at the dealership.
“It is 100 per cent directed at Elon Musk and his actions,” he said. “We don’t have any issues with Tesla owners or the employees that work there, it’s not their fault.”
Earlier this month in Saskatoon a Tesla Cybertruck was vandalized and Hanson said he doesn’t want any animosity or anger to be directed at those who drive a Tesla.
“I personally know a number of Tesla owners, they’re lovely people,” he said.
“We can’t protest Donald Trump right now because he doesn’t have a Trump tower in Saskatoon,” said Hanson.
“I’m personally outraged that these guys talk about annexing Canada as if it’s a trivial matter.”
Hanson owns an electric vehicle and he said he has nothing against them, his problem is with Musk strongarming his way into the White House.
“When Elon Musk’s wealth is used as a way to exert power over entire countries, I think we have the obligation to come out here and protest the existence of this company.”

Canadian flags, toques, mitts, and scarves could be seen on almost everyone at the protest and Hanson said an anti-Musk protest is also a pro-Canada rally.
“Because of the comments made by Elon Musk that Canada isn’t a real country and he has the ear of Donald Trump, 100 per cent this becomes an issue of sovereignty and our right to have an independent country,” he said.
A few Tesla owners were in the crowd, and even one American.
Brandon Newton grew up in Kentucky before he moved to Saskatoon a couple of years ago and said it was heartbreaking to see the two countries fight.
“We (Canada and U.S.) have more in common with each other,” Newton said. “We need to stand together and that if we continue to fight this together we can push back this tide of hate and discrimination.”
Newton said the crowd turnout was amazing to see.
“It’s inspiring and I feel like it’s also emboldening,” they said. “I feel like it shows us that we’re not alone and that this fight’s not over.”
