The Moose Jaw Warriors have traded their captain forward Brayden Yager.
Yager, a Saskatoon product just invited to Team Canada’s World Juniors selection camp, was dealt to the Lethbridge Hurricanes along with goaltender Jackson Unger.
The Warriors acquired defenceman Colt Carter, goalie Brady Smith, forward Landen Ward along with a multitude of picks — two first-round picks (2025 and 2028), a 2028 second-round pick, a 2025 third-round pick, a fourth-round pick in 2028 and a fifth-round pick in 2028.
Yager was taken by the Pittsburgh Penguins 14th overall in the 2024 NHL entry draft. Yager was a key part in the Warriors winning the Ed Chynoweth Cup for the first time in franchise history last season.
He has 30 points (11 goals, 19 assists) in 21 games this season. In 232 WHL regular-season games, he has recorded 280 points (115 goals, 165 assists).
Unger owns a career record of 62-49-3-3 with a 3.64 goals-against average.
Carter is a 15-year-old prospect skating with the St. Albert Raiders U18 AAA squad.
Smith has an 8-4-1 record between the pipes for the Hurricanes this season.
Ward has a goal and an assist in 22 games this season.
The Warriors have a 6-15-3-1 record thus far this season while the Hurricanes sit at 12-10-1-1.
