The death of a 41-year-old inmate at the Saskatoon Correctional Centre will be investigated by police, coroners and Saskatchewan’s Ministry of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety.
According to the ministry, a male inmate at the centre’s Men’s Reintegration Unit was found unresponsive in a the washroom on Saturday.

“Corrections staff initiated life saving measures and called EMS,” the ministry said in a statement. “EMS declared the inmate deceased at 11:07 p.m.”
Foul play is not currently suspected in the death, the ministry noted, and the man’s family has been notified. The man’s name and the reason for his incarceration were not shared by the ministry.
According to the ministry, the Saskatoon Police Service and Saskatchewan Coroner’s Service have been notified of the death and will investigate the circumstances. The ministry said it is also conducting an internal investigation.
