A firearm smash-and-grab following a fight has landed a 22-year-old man in court in Saskatoon.
Saskatoon Police Service said in a news release that officers were called to the 700 block of Circle Drive East on Monday around 6:30 a.m. after receiving a report that a man had smashed a vehicle window and taken a firearm.
The suspect had fled when police arrived, but the officers spoke with witnesses and saw a truck with a smashed window. A police dog then led police to a piece of the firearm lying in an alley.
The suspect was then found at 43rd Street East and Millar Avenue, and after a short chase he dropped the firearm and was arrested.
Police said the man had been in a physical altercation with a person known to him before he allegedly stole the gun from the vehicle. The victim was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The man is facing multiple weapons related charges, as well as assault, mischief, and theft charges. No further information was provided.
