The RCMP say a case described as “potential child luring” in Regina Beach wasn’t criminal, and no charges will be laid.
A statement from the Mounties described an incident on Thursday in which a middle-aged man in a car allegedly approached two boys who were walking down Fifth Avenue in Regina Beach and “asked them multiple times if they wanted a ride.” Police said the boys were able to get to a safe spot, and the car “sped away.”
The RCMP said officers immediately began patrols in the area, but weren’t able to locate the suspect or his car. The public was also asked to check surveillance cameras for any footage that might include the suspect.
On Friday afternoon, the RCMP said the suspect got in touch with police, “and based on a fulsome investigation, officers determined there was no criminality involved and no risk to the public.”
No charges will be laid as a result, the Mounties added.
“Lumsden RCMP would like to thank the public and the media for their assistance on this investigation,” the RCMP said in a statement.
