A man’s death on Saturday on the Witchekan Lake First Nation has been deemed by the RCMP to be suspicious in nature.
Just before 6 p.m., the Mounties were notified that a 38-year-old man had been assaulted. After officers arrived on the scene, the man was pronounced dead.
The Saskatchewan Coroners Service and the North Battleford RCMP Forensic Identification Section were called to assist and investigate further. An autopsy was to take place Monday.
The RCMP said investigators were conducting witness interviews and gathering information to develop a clear timeline of events and determine the circumstances surrounding the death.
Anyone with information was asked to contact their nearest RCMP detachment or Crime Stoppers.
The First Nation is about a 130-kilometre drive northeast of North Battleford.
