Regina city council needs to hear this! Build a baseball stadium! Just don’t build it downtown.
I completely agree that the old Currie Field has run its course and it would be great to see a new ball park for Regina. What I disagree with is building the thing on the old CP Rail site near downtown.
What we don’t need is another summer facility eating up fine real estate. The railyard land needs to bring people downtown all year to make fiscal sense. A baseball stadium doesn’t do that. A hockey rink would.
I know it’s unrealistic because those at Regina Exhibition Association Limited would want their rink on their property but I’m sure something could be worked out. Are we planning cities on convenience or with an actual purpose?
Could you imagine a new rink with a pedway to the downtown Casino and the bars and restaurants? It would actually seem like a plan with foresight and vision.
Or maybe Regina will just have to wait for Saskatoon to build an arena downtown to see what a great idea this would actually be.
