The Montreal Canadiens are off to an 0-5 start this NHL season. They have just four goals scored and have given up nearly four goals per game.
The Canadiens aren’t only bad. They’re looking like what we thought the Buffalo Sabres would look like this season. The Sabres, meanwhile, are 3-0.
Sure, Buffalo’s record should give us pause to not overreact to the Canadiens’ start, but the time has to be closing for the team to do something. Now, will the owner act first and fire general manager Marc Bergevin, who is entering the final year of his contract anyway? Or will Bergevin try to shake things up with a trade of some sort?
The lack of leadership with Shea Weber and Carey Price out of the lineup are both glaring holes.
You could also blame a Stanley Cup hangover as they wouldn’t be the first team to lose in the Cup final and then see their play drop off the following season.
While Jesperi Kotkaniemi faced the jeers and boos from the Canadiens’ faithful, it’s the team in the bleu, blanc et rouge who deserve them a lot more.
