Kudos to the CFL and the board of governors for making a sensible decision regarding the 2023 Grey Cup as we’ll all go back to Hamilton despite that city hosting this year.
The Tiger-Cats had a lot plans for the 2021 Grey Cup, as did the CFL. They thought it had the potential to be a gigantic ‘We’re back’ party after many months of restrictions and gathering limits.
However, COVID-19 had a different idea and it’s too close to kickoff for the Grey Cup to know if the big team parties are sensible or realistic right now.
Remember, it has been 25 years between Grey Cups being played in Hamilton so this was big for the team, the business community, the city and the fans.
Instead, they get a scaled-down game for 2021 but at least we get that this year.
So, in 2023, Hamilton will get another crack at the massive party it had originally planned and hopefully next year’s Grey Cup in Saskatchewan is the shoulder-to-shoulder party we’ve come to expect in the CFL.
