The B.C. Lions are damned if they do and damned if they don’t.
Last week, they drew a tonne of criticism for listing Michael Reilly as the starting quarterback, only to switch to Nathan Rourke just moments before the game.
They said all week Reilly was expected to start.
In Week 2, they flipped the script. They listed Rourke as the starter and we didn’t find out Reilly was good to go until he ran out to take the first snaps.
This week, they said early that they were preparing to start Rourke, although head coach Rick Campbell did admit that Reilly would be a game-time decision.
I do not think the Lions are jerking people around on purpose, though sports bettors are furious with them for compromising bets. I think the Lions are providing a great example to the rest of the teams how transparent and honest you have to be with injuries if the CFL really wants to adopt an NFL-style injury report.
It’s a terrible look on a league that has a new gambling partner, whose betting line was compromised because the Lions have gone back-to-back games starting the guy listed as a backup.
