The National Football League must love the No Fun League moniker that has become so popular.
The NFL will crack down on taunting penalties this season. Coaches and managers believe the players have been given too much leniency on the rule and the players are not being respectful.
Sorry, but I’ve watched a lot of football and I’ve enjoyed the back-and-forth smack talk you see among players. Rivalries are made. Matchups become more emotional and more engaging and, really, who are they hurting by taunting?
Are their feelings getting hurt? Unsportsmanlike penalties are in the rulebook already so if an official deems it too far, they can throw the flag. I like that they no longer throw flags for every little hand gesture or trash talk or staredown.
Oh, and have the players complained? It doesn’t sound like it.
And save your “bad example for the kids” argument. If you don’t like your kids taunting during games, I don’t know, maybe try parenting rather than blame NFL players.
