Canada Post is working around the clock to respond to the increase in demand during the Christmas season.
That includes in Saskatoon, where delivery trucks will be going out on weekends.
Eighteen people have tested positive for COVID-19 at the Saskatoon Mail Processing Plant, but a spokesperson for Canada Post says that’s not the reason for the delays.
Phil Legault said it’s busy everywhere with the increase in Christmas parcels going out and workers following extra safety protocols.
“What I can tell you about deliveries and processing is that Saskatoon, like all our plants across the country, is very busy,” Legault, a media relations employee with Canada Post, said in an email to 650 CKOM on Friday.
“We are processing mail and parcels around the clock to respond to the increase in demand, which began to pick up weeks ago as Canadians started their holiday shopping early, while maintaining important health and safety protocols related to COVID-19.”
Last weekend, Canada Post delivered 950,000 parcels across the country and another 2.25 million were delivered Monday.
“While parcel processing and delivery is expected to continue at a high pace throughout December, customers may experience some delays,” Legault said.
