Staff hide in washroom during armed robbery at Regina business

Officers were called to a convenience store on the 2900 block of Dewdney Avenue in Regina around 11:15 p.m. Monday night for a report of an armed robbery..

Police said three staff members hid in the washroom and called 911 as two people entered the store wearing masks. The suspects were allegedly carrying a knife and a gun, which they pointed at staff.

Police said the suspects left the business with money and merchandise. No one was injured during the robbery.

Officers, including a member of the Canine Unit, tracked the suspects and found them at a home on the 900 block of Rae Street. They then allegedly left the home before being arrested on the 800 block of Angus Street.

Police seized some of the stolen goods and unrelated weapons from the home on Rae Street.

A 15-year-old boy and a 17-year-old boy – who cannot be named due to the Youth Criminal Justice Act – were charged with armed robbery, and wearing a disguise.

The 15-year-old was also charged with several counts of failing to comply with conditions, breach of undertaking, and giving a fake name to a police officer.

The 17-year-old was also charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000 in connection with an incident from Oct. 29, 2016.

Both were held in custody and will appear in court in Regina Tuesday afternoon.
