Saskatoon police are reminding residents that taking a dip in the river is illegal and dangerous after two people were arrested for trying to swim across Friday evening.
Police, Saskatoon Fire Department Water Rescue and paramedics rushed to the riverbank near the 900 block of Spadina Crescent East around 8:30 p.m. following reports of two people trying to swim across the South Saskatchewan River.
A 32-year-old woman made it across the river but needed medical attention for exhaustion.
The woman, along with a 34-year-old man were arrested and charged under the City of Saskatoon Bylaw 4433 which prohibits swimming in the river within city limits. The pair were also charged with other unrelated criminal charges.
