A suspect in a stolen vehicle chase is facing a long list of charges, including causing unnecessary suffering to a police dog.
According to Saskatoon police, the pursuit started at around 11 p.m. Monday when officers found a stolen Mercedes near 11th Street West and Circle Drive.
Saskatoon police Air Support followed the vehicle along Highway 16 to Radisson, where RCMP picked up the chase.
After officers were able to deflate the tires with a spike belt, the suspect got out of the vehicle and ran.
He was later found in a slough where he allegedly tried to drown a Saskatoon police dog involved in the pursuit.
The dog was assessed by a veterinarian and later released.
The suspect was taken to hospital to be treated for a dog bite.
He faces a charge of dangerous driving and robbery, and possession of stolen property over $5,000.
Correction: This story previously stated the dog was a member of the RCMP. The canine is a member of the Saskatoon Police Service.
