Mulitple calls to 911 to report heavy smoke around 12:45 p.m. Saturday just outside of Saskatoon near Auction Mart Road led fire crews to a large grass fire.
According to the Saskatoon Fire Department, the blaze started as a controlled burn but quickly become unmanageable and spread.
It took 10.5 hours to fight the blaze, enough time for one home to be extensively damaged and a garage, sheds, one car and two tractors to be completely destroyed
Fire crews from Saskatoon, Martensville and Dalmeny got help from people living in the area with heavy equipment and were able to save two other homes threatened by the flames.
By 5:30 p.m. Saturday the fire was considered under control, but crews stayed until 11 p.m. to manage flare-ups.
Crews were called back Sunday morning to help put out remaining hot spots.
One firefighter suffered minor burns and was treated at the scene.
