For the first time, water tests show hydrocarbons are present in hydrants in Saskatoon, specifically in the Aspen Ridge area.
“The Water Security Agency has ordered the water supply can’t be used for personal contact at 19 addresses in Aspen Ridge,” said Angela Gardiner, Acting General Manager of Transportation and Utilities.
She described hydrocarbons as “some kind of an oil” during an update Wednesday night but said it’s not clear where it came from at this point.
The city is providing temporary water for people affected by the notice.
An investigation to figure out where the hydrocarbons came from and exactly what they are is underway.
