The family of Arson Jr. Fern has confirmed through their GoFundMe page that the 19-year-old man has died.
“Thank you, everyone that donated to the family of Arson Jr. they are so grateful for that. Arson Jr. is no longer with us. May he rest in peace,” an update on the crowdfunding web page said Wednesday morning.
Fern was one of 25 people on a West Wind Aviation plane Dec. 13 when it crashed shortly after taking off from the Fond du Lac airport on a flight to Stony Rapids.
According to family, Fern, who lived with cerebral palsy, was on the plane to get to a medical appointment. He suffered broken legs, a broken pelvis, internal bleeding and a collapsed lung in the crash.
The GoFundMe campaign raised $2,500, according to the website the family now plans to use to pay for a headstone for Fern.
West Wind Aviation released a written statement Wednesday about the death of Fern.
The company said everyone is “devastated” to learn about the passing of one of their passengers and are “overwhelmed with sadness of this news.”
The company is providing those involved in the crash with support including access to trauma counsellors.
Since the crash, West Wind Aviation grounded its fleet voluntarily ahead of a Transportation Safety Board order last week.
