Saskatchewan Party members now have two options to chose from when it comes to who will be named the next premier.
Meadow Lake MLA Jeremy Harrison announced Saturday morning that he has joined the Sask. Party leadership race, alongside Regina University MLA Tina Beaudry-Mellor.
Harrison told 650 CKOM that his upbringing in a small Saskatchewan city paired with his rural knowledge will give him a unique perspective.
“I don’t see the differentiation between (rural and urban) and I won’t be talking in that fashion,” he said. “As we go into our campaign, there will be provincial issues and that’s the way we need to look at them.”
Harrison added that a fundamental part of his platform will be voicing his opposition to the proposed carbon tax.
“With every fibre of my being, I will be doing whatever we can to oppose and fight a federally-imposed carbon tax, which will have a devastating affect on our economy,” he said.
Entering the leadership race, Harrison is no stranger to provincial politics. In the last 10 years, he has served as Saskatchewan’s Minister of the Economy, Minister Responsible for Tourism, Innovation, Trade, and Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority.
