Saskatoon residents hoping to enjoy outdoor pools in the waning days of summer may face a problem on the east side of the river.
Lathey Pool has already closed for the season, due to mechanical problems caused by a massive rain storm on Aug. 8.
The city said heavy rainfall flooded the basement where mechanical equipment is kept underneath the pool, causing “significant damage” to the pumps.
Staff are still trying to determine the full extent of the repairs needed, hoping to get the pool ready in time for the 2018 swimming season.
The flooding came on the same day the Avalon and Adelaide-Churchill neighbourhoods saw 57 millimetres of rain within an hour, flooding residential streets and businesses.
The city said George Ward Pool, which was originally set to close Aug. 25, will stay open until Aug. 31 to meet demand for pool time on the east side of the river.
