It’s the first time Regina has won the Canadian male U18 AAA hockey championship since 1999. It is now their fifth title, tying them with Notre Dame and Séminaire Saint-François for the most ever. This was the 10th time Regina had qualified for the tournament — only the seventh team to ever qualify a double-digit number of times.
Schultz was one of the youngest players at the tournament, with the 15-year-old Regina product eligible for this year’s WHL Prospects Draft. Despite his young age, Schultz led the tournament with 20 points, tying him for the fourth-most all-time at the tournament with Sam Reinhart. Only Cliff Ronning (26), Sidney Crosby (24), and Alexander Kerfoot (22) have scored more points at the tournament.
The Regina Pats will have an opportunity to draft Schultz as the club won the WHL draft lottery.
Regina won the Saskatchewan Male U18 AAA Hockey League to qualify for the tournament. Regina also needed to West Regionals, where it handled business, going undefeated over the four games.
The final game saw them in a rematch with the Quebec representative, who beat them in the round-robin — the only loss the Pat Canadians suffered at the tournament. In that game, the Chevaliers won 6-2 to claim the top spot in the standings after the round-robin.
Before that game, Regina had beaten the host Fraser Valley Thunderbirds 6-1, Moncton Flyers 3-2, Elgin Middlesex Canucks 6-2 and Okanagan Rockeys 8-1. Regina beat the Canucks 5-0 in the semifinals to advance to the rematch against the Chevaliers.
In the final showdown, Jonah Sivertson scored on the power play in the first period to give Regina an early lead. But Lévis answered back just 1:15 with Malyk Côté scoring the equalizer.

Félix Grenier scored in the second period to give Lévis the lead in the second period. Then, at the 18:51 mark of that period, Logan Mehl scored to tie things up once again.
A scoreless third period meant the sudden-death frame was needed to determine the champion.
It wouldn’t take long for Schultz to score the game-winner as his shot at the 28-second mark beat goaltender Antoine Proulx to win the title.
Regina goaltender Taylor Tabashniuk stopped 29 shots of the 31 he faced in the contest.
