RCMP officers and the Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team will conduct an investigation after a man went into what police described as “medical distress” after his arrest in North Battleford on Saturday.
According to the RCMP, officers determined that a 31-year-old man who was wanted on unspecified warrants was at a home on 107th Street in North Battleford.

“The wanted male refused police instruction to exit the residence. Officers contained an area around it to ensure public safety,” the RCMP said in a statement.
Police, including a dog team, executed a search warrant at the home. The RCMP said officers found the man while he was hiding in the home’s attic.
“Shortly after his arrest, he went into medical distress,” the Mounties said.
“EMS was called while initial medical assistance was provided by officers on scene.”
The man was taken to a hospital for treatment, police said, and the Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT) was notified.
That team is a civilian-led unit that investigates incidents where someone dies or is seriously injured while in police custody or as the result of a police officer’s actions.
“Under the oversight of SIRT, the Saskatchewan RCMP’s Provincial General Investigation Section will investigate North Battleford RCMP’s interaction with the 31-year-old male and the circumstances of his injuries,” the RCMP said.
