Discover Saskatoon will be asking Saskatoon city councillors to approve a big chunk of change for the second time in less than three months.
On January 29, CEO Steph Clovechok made a presentation to councillors asking for $500,000 to help with its bid towards bringing a major national music awards show to the city.

“This is a nationwide, high profile, multi-day music event that will bring thousands of visitors, music industry professionals, and artists to our city,” she told councillors at the time.
The money was contingent on the application process and would have been allocated from the city’s reserve for major special events.
The request was unanimously approved, but Discover Saskatoon was not successful in its bid.
Because of non-disclosure agreements signed by Discover Saskatoon as part of the bidding process, it’s not known what major national music awards show it bid for.
Now, Clovechok is again expected to ask councillors for another $350,000 to help “strengthen” the organization’s bid for a “premier national winter sport championship” in 2027.
According to a report from the city, administration is recommending the request be approved under the special events policy pending a detailed application package submission and that the organization is successful in its bid.
“Discover Saskatoon is in a competitive bid process with other cities for this event, they have requested the event name be kept confidential. It is estimated that the economic impact of the event will be approximately $15 million and will be televised nationally, garnering significant external media attention for Saskatoon,” read the report.
According to Discover Saskatoon, the money would be required as part of their bid rather than after the bid is won.
“Discover Saskatoon is requesting a one-time investment of $350,000 from the City of Saskatoon to contribute to the event requirements and to successfully acquire this event for Saskatoon,” the report continued.
If approved, the money would come from the city’s Reserve for Major Special Events.
Discover Saskatoon is also asking for $600,000 from the provincial government.
