Last Friday, Big River RCMP were notified that a serious assault had happened in Big River at a residence where the victim was hospitalized.
It was around 2 p.m. when officers said in a news release, “two adult male suspects had entered the residence and assaulted a male occupant with a weapon.”
The two men were not located on the scene, but various weapons were taken into custody. Police say the victim had non-life-threatening injuries.
RCMP charged a 45-year-old man of Lashburn with the following after his arrest on April 17 in Lloydminster:
- one count, break and enter and commit indictable offence, Section 358(1)(b), Criminal Code;
- one count, aggravated assault, Section 268(2), Criminal Code; and
- one count, uttering threats, Section 264.1(1)(a), Criminal Code

The other suspect whom the RCMP are still looking for is a 51-year-old Cole Hegland of Big River.
Hegland is said to be:
- Height: 6 ft
- Weight: 170 lbs
- Eye colour: green
- Hair colour and style: blonde, short hair
- Other descriptors: brown facial hair and skull tattoo on left and right shoulders.
He is charged with the following:
- one count, break and enter and commit indictable offence, Section 348(1)(b), Criminal Code; and
- one count, aggravated assault, Section 268(2), Criminal Code (Information # 90532286).
- Big River RCMP are actively searching for Cole Hegland, who has an active arrest warrant in connection with this incident.
