Police said they saw a white SUV near Avenue P South and 20th Street West around 11:30 p.m. on Friday, which was then followed as it travelled at high speed out of the city by the plane (Air Support Unit).
SPS officers in the plane saw the occupants of the vehicle throwing items from the SUV as they continued to evade police. Police said these items were later found to include a sawed-off shotgun, ammunition, and a can of bear spray.
Police were assisted by RCMP, who laid tire deflation devices south of Blaine Lake, and two men aged 26 and 33 were arrested.
Both men were charged with possession of stolen property over $5000, possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition, unauthourized possession of a firearm, careless use of a firearm, tampering with a serial number, possession of a dangerous weapon, unauthorized possession in motor vehicle, and possession contrary to an order.
The 26-year-old driver was also charged with dangerous driving and failing to stop.
