"All I've wanted since we won in 2020 was to be back here hoisting that cup again," said Justin Ball.
An order-in-council signed by Prime Minister Mark Carney today will end the consumer carbon levy on April 1.
That’s the date the price was set to rise by another $15 to $95 per tonne of greenhouse gas emissions.
The order, titled “Eliminating the Consumer Carbon Price,” reads, “I hereby instruct that the fuel charge be removed as of April 1, 2025 and that the April 2025 Canada Carbon Rebate be issued.”
The next rebate, which is sent to households in provinces and territories that use the federal carbon pricing system, is scheduled for April 15.
Eliminating the charge will reduce the cost of a litre of gasoline by 17.6 cents, and reduce the cost a cubic metre of natural gas by a little more than 15 cents.
