Atem was wanted in connection with the shooting death of 32-year-old Roman Miller, which occurred on July 29, 2023 in the 2100 block of Broad Street.
He was added to the list of most-wanted suspects by the BOLO Program, a national non-profit, bringing significant attention to the search through a billboard campaign and an offer of a $50,000 reward for information leading to his arrest. Back in August, police had said they suspected Atem was in Calgary.
The police service did not say if the arrest was the result of a tip from the public.
Atem is set to appear in a Winnipeg courtroom on Thursday morning, and will then be transported to Regina to answer the murder charge. A court date in Regina will be set at a later date, the police service noted.
