A 13-year-old and a 16-year old have been charged after bear spray was discharged at one of the entrances to Midtown mall on Monday.
Saskatoon Police Service (SPS) said in a news release that officers were called to the mall after the spray was discharged near an entrance around 4:45 p.m. on Dec. 16 and were told that two suspects had run away.
While on the way to the mall, a member of the SPS Canine Unit observed two male youths matching descriptions of the suspects in the 1000 block of 20th Street West and police said they were arrested without incident and were then found to have bear spray.
The youths have been charged with carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace, assault, and mischief. The 16-year-old was also found to be in violation of court-imposed conditions.
Former Saskatoon mayoral candidate Cary Tarasoff asked Saskatoon City Council this week to consider enacting its own bylaws or regulations on the sale of bear spray, citing examples from other cities that have banned its sale of it to anyone under the age of 19, or anyone who doesn’t provide identification when attempting to purchase it.
Man charged with assault after stabbing
A 30-year-old man is facing a charge of assault causing bodily harm after a man was stabbed in the Westmount neigbourhood on Sunday.
SPS said in a news release That officers were called to the 300 block of Avenue L North around 10 a.m. on Dec. 15 after receiving a report of an injured person, and when they arrived found a 31-year-old man was found outside a home, with injuries caused by a knife.
The man was taken to hospital with serious but non life threatening injuries and police were told the stabbing happened in a nearby home and the suspect might still be inside.
They did indeed find a 30-year-old man inside, and then arrested and charged him.
