Four people were taken into custody late last week after allegedly fleeing from RCMP officers in a stolen SUV, ramming a police vehicle in the process.
According to the RCMP, officers spotted the stolen vehicle on Highway 55 between Nipawin and Smeaton on Friday afternoon. Officers tried to stop the SUV, but the driver allegedly took off at high speed, blowing past another police traffic stop.

Police slowed the SUV down using a tire deflation device after the chase turned onto Highway 123, but the driver allegedly kept going despite severe damage to one of the front tires.
“Officers boxed it in, and it rammed a police vehicle before coming to a stop,” the RCMP said in a statement.
“The four occupants of the SUV were arrested. No officers reported injuries and the police vehicle was not significantly damaged.”
Inside the vehicle, police said they found a “large amount” of ammunition. Photos shared by police show rifle rounds, shotgun shells, and one pistol bullet.
The four occupants of the SUV are all facing charges, but police said officers are searching for one of the suspects – 31-year-old Samantha Bird from Prince Albert – who was released after her arrest.
“Cumberland House RCMP initially took a fourth individual into custody, who misrepresented herself to police throughout their interactions with her. She was released on conditions pending a future court appearance,” the RCMP explained.
“A warrant has been issued for her arrest and Cumberland House RCMP is working to locate her. She is described as approximately 5’8” and 130 lbs. She has black hair and brown eyes. A photo of her is attached. She also goes by the last name ‘Freeman.’”
Anyone who spots Bird, or has information that could assist the investigation, was asked to contact the Saskatchewan RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
