The recall of a Chicken and Mushroom Pasta Meal Kit by Costco in Canada is related to a massive recall of nearly 10 million pounds of meat and poultry products made at an Oklahoma plant because they may be contaminated with listeria.
Shoppers in Canada that purchased one of the meal kits made by Rana Meal Solutions between September and this month may return it to a Costco warehouse to obtain a full refund, the company said in email and phone alerts on Friday. The products were sold at Costco warehouses in Saskatchewan.

The voluntary recall is due to potential contamination of listeria monocytogenes in the chicken, an ingredient included in the meal kit.
Oregon company BrucePac recalled roughly 5,000 tons of ready-to-eat foods this week after U.S. Agriculture Department officials detected listeria in samples of poultry during routine testing. Further tests identified BrucePac chicken as the source. The U.S. recall includes 75 meat and chicken products.
The foods include products like grilled chicken breast strips that were made at the company’s facility in Durant, Oklahoma. They were produced between June 19 and Oct. 8 and shipped to restaurants, food service vendors and other sites nationwide, U.S. government officials said.
The products have a best-by date of June 19, 2025 to Oct. 8, 2025, and U.S. officials said they are concerned that the foods may still be available for use or stored in refrigerators or freezers.
There are no confirmed reports of illness linked to the recall.
Symptoms and causes of listeria
Listeria bacterium can cause listeriosis.
Symptoms of listeriosis can start as early as three days after eating contaminated food and may appear up to 70 days after exposure, according to the Public Health Agency of Canada.
Symptoms can include fever, nausea, cramps, diarrhoea, vomiting, headache, constipation and muscle aches.
In severe cases, the bacteria can spread to the nervous system (the brain, spinal cord and nerves). Symptoms of severe listeriosis include stiff neck, confusion, headache and loss of balance.
Listeria bacterium is found in soil, sewage and untreated water. It can also be found in foods such as meat, seafood, fruits, vegetables and dairy products.
It can get into fruits and vegetables if contaminated water is used on crops. They can also become contaminated from Listeria in soil and manure-based fertilizers.
Food manufacturing and processing facilities can also spread the bacteria if contaminated water or contaminated ingredients are used there, Health Canada says.
The illness is generally not spread between people, but those with weakened immune systems, adults over the age of 60 and pregnant women — including their fetus or newborn baby — are at heightened risk of listeriosis complications.
