Saskatoon's U-15 Alliance girls team brings home historic silver medal

The national medal is the first in the province's history for a U-17 girls team.
The Briarwood Pond will remain off-limits for recreation activities for the time being.
The City of Saskatoon says test results collected from the pond on July 30 have confirmed the presence of blue-green algae, a potentially toxic bacteria.
However, toxicity levels in the water are low and don’t pose a health risk at this time according to a city release.
“The test results indicate that the cyanotoxins present in the sampling were found to be thirty times lower than the provincial safety guideline established by the Healthy Beaches Program,” the city said.
The city is still advising residents and their pets to stay clear of the pond as a precaution and signage around the pond will remain in place.
The city will continue to monitor and re-test the water.
Blue-green algae has a foamy blue-green colour that looks like spilled paint floating on top of the water.
It can be harmful to people and even deadly for animals. Contact or ingestion of the toxins can cause symptoms such as skin irritation, nausea, vomiting, and respiratory distress.
