Dohnte Meyers made an impact when given the chance to make his regular-season debut for the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
The 24-year-old wide receiver caught eight of his nine targets and led the way for the Green and White with 101 yards in the team’s 22-22 tie with the Ottawa Redblacks.
“I think it just feels like a blessing,” Meyers said. “I’m just happy that it’s done and all the nerves are out of the way.
“You want to go out there and do your best. You don’t really worry about the stats — when the plays come to you, you just want to make them.”
Meyers appears set to make his second start of the season on Friday, when the Riders host the Montreal Alouettes. Kickoff for the game is set for 7 p.m.

Meyers joined the Riders after he attended rookie camp with the Atlanta Falcons in 2023. Prior to that, he spent his first two collegiate seasons (2018-19) at Presbyterian College before two seasons (2021-22) at Delta State University.
He caught a four-yard touchdown pass in the team’s second preseason game — a 28-27 win over the Edmonton Elks.
But he suffered a wrist injury in that game and had to work to return to being game ready.
“It’s just part of the journey,” Meyers said. “Your journey prepares you for certain situations and you just want to wait your turn and always be ready so you don’t have to get ready.”
Riders head coach Corey Mace said Meyers has the potential to be an excellent receiver for the Riders.
“He does a lot of really good things,” Mace said. “He’s a heck of a player. Credit to him and his patience to be able to wait for his opportunity, and he made the best of it.”
While it required patience, Meyers said the time he’s spent in practice and in the preseason helped prepare him to be ready to take to a CFL field for the first time in the regular season.
“Coach Mace and just our competitive nature as the Riders just helped me get adjusted — the game speed, the offence, defense, and special teams,” Meyers said. “When it was time to get out there, it was just another day.”
So does Meyers have anything planned for an encore after putting up over 100 yards in his debut?
“I didn’t think this was going to happen so I’m speechless on that one,” Meyers said.
Notes: Trevor Harris logged a second-straight full practice after suffering a knee injury back in Week 3. Mace wouldn’t commit to naming him as the starter with a decision coming later in the week. Running back A. J. Ouellette (hip) and linebacker Jameer Thurman (elbow) both appear set to return to the lineup this week.
