A piece of Canadian history will be landing in Saskatoon today.
A Lancaster Bomber, on route from Hamilton to Cold Lake, will make a short pit stop at the Saskatchewan Aviation Museum allowing the public an opportunity to get up close and personal with the Second World War aircraft.
The Lancaster Bombers were key a element to the Allies Victory in WWII. Almost 7,400 were built and flown by squadrons from Britain, Canada and other Commonwealth nations. Of these, 430 were built in Canada.
Today, only two of the vintage planes in the world are still able to fly.
The museum will be having a fundraising BBQ lunch in conjunction with the Lancaster’s stop. The public can take photos and talk with the crew.
The Lancaster is tentatively scheduled to arrive at 10:30 a.m. and is expected to be in town for a few hours.
The war plane’s next stop is an air show in Cold Lake, AB as part of the Royal Canadian Air Force’s 100th Anniversary celebrations.
