SARCAN celebrated the grand opening of its new recycling depot at 52 Highland Road in Moose Jaw on Wednesday.
According to Amy McNeil, the organization’s executive director, the state-of-the-art facility shows how much SARCAN has grown and advanced over the years.
“Walking into this depot fills me with so much joy,” McNeil said in a statement.
“Not just because it is a bigger, brighter, and better building than its predecessor, but because it is a symbol of the growth and progress that we have made over the past 3 and a half decades.”

SARCAN now has 74 depots across the province, and the organization saw 1.6 million customers last year, bringing in more than 500 million drink containers for an 84 per cent return rate.
The new depot was built with growth in mind, as it will serve more than 60,000 people, and the Moose Jaw area saw more than 17 million containers returned in 2023.
Christine Tell, Saskatchewan’s environment minister, said SARCAN’s commitment to reducing waste will become more important as the province continues to grow.
“As we envision a Saskatchewan with 1.4 million residents by 2030, managing solid waste responsibly is paramount. Our partners at SARCAN are leading the way with one of the most effective beverage recycling systems in North America.”
As of April 1, Statistics Canada said there were 1,231,043 people living in the province.
