Keep an eye on the sky on Tuesday, as funnel clouds could form over parts of Saskatchewan.
Environment Canada issued an advisory on Tuesday morning covering Saskatoon and much of east-central Saskatchewan.
“Funnel clouds are possible today,” the weather service explained in a statement.
“If conditions become more favourable for the development of landspout tornadoes, watches and warnings will be issued by Environment Canada.”

While landspout tornadoes don’t typically leave major damage in their wakes, Environment Canada said any funnel cloud sighting should be taken seriously, as winds can topple trees, damage roofs and throw debris into the air.
“Should a funnel cloud develop nearby, prepare to take shelter,” the weather service noted. “These funnel clouds usually appear with little or no warning.”
Environment Canada meteorologist Terri Lang said most funnel clouds don’t even make it to the ground.
“You see them and then they go back into the cloud and the cloud kind of collapses and it is over. Some can touch the ground, and if they do they can possibly cause damage, so we just want people’s heads up,” Lang explained.
If a funnel cloud touches down, Lang said it’s important to put safety first.
“That means getting inside a sturdy building, getting into the lowest level you can – a basement if possible,” the meteorologist said.
“If you do not have a basement, get into an interior room or closet. You want to put as many walls and doors between yourself and the outside as you can.”
A number of funnel clouds were seen in the Battleford area on May 29.
