Rainfall warnings in southwest Saskatchewan remained in effect on Tuesday, with up to 75 millimetres of rain expected in some areas.
According to Environment Canada, which first issued the warning on Monday, the southwestern corner of the province can expect showers and heavy rain for at least a couple more days, with the possibility of thunderstorms adding to the mix.
Maple Creek, Eastend, Consul, Val Marie and Climax are all in the area covered by the warning.
“Rainfall accumulations of 50-75 mm can be expected by Wednesday morning,” the weather service said in a statement. “Surrounding regions will have lesser rainfall in the 25-50 mm range.”
Heavy downpours could lead to flash flooding and water pooled on roads, Environment Canada warned, and localized flooding could occur in some low-lying areas.
“If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance,” Environment Canada added. “Watch for possible washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts.”
But while the rain may cause headaches in some areas, the extra moisture is being welcomed by some farmers, as well as firefighters.
