Firefighters determined the blaze was in the basement of one of the apartment complex buildings, and worked to extinguish it from the exterior.
One person was hurt during the fire.
“An unknown aged male sustained undetermined injuries and was treated by the ambulance service and transported to hospital,” the fire department noted in a statement.
The apartment complex had to be shut down in the aftermath of the fire, the fire department said, because utilities could not be restored.
“The property owner is temporarily rehousing all occupants of the 26 occupied units to a hotel until the building is habitable,” the fire department said.
“It is unknown how many occupants are being displaced at this time but all tenants are being safely rehoused.”
An investigation into the fire is ongoing.
Firefighter injured during garage fire
A firefighter in Saskatoon was injured on Sunday while battling a garage fire on Avenue L South.
The fire, which started along a fence between two properties, spread to the exterior of a garage with overhead lines presenting an additional risk, the fire department said.
While the fire was being extinguished, the firefighter sustained what the fire department described as minor injuries.
The fire was quickly brought under control, and because the fire is considered suspicious the cause is being investigated by police.
Damage from the fire, which extended to a second garage and a shed, was estimated at $10,000.
