Outdoor Easter egg hunts may have to be moved indoors this weekend with a blast of winter weather hitting a large area of Saskatchewan.
Environment Canada says the late March snow is thanks to a fast-moving Alberta Clipper set to hit the province Thursday evening.
“It’s a true Clipper in the sense, moving quickly,” said Justin Share, a meteorologist with Environment Canada.
The storm will impact both Saskatoon and Regina. Share said areas along Highway 11 will see about five centimetres of snow, with totals approaching 10 cm in east and northeast Saskatchewan.
“It would be a bit of that wet snow. We’ve got some pretty mild temperatures. It is going to be a little stickier than the middle of January snow,” said Share.
The weather office is recommending to check the Highway Hotline before heading to Easter destinations.
Share warned there could be pockets of poor visibility on Friday before the system pushes off into Manitoba.
“Currently it doesn’t look like a widespread reduction in visibility. Right now, (we’re expecting wind) gusts to 40 kilometres per hour, maybe 50 kilometres per hour,” he said.
The fresh blanket of snow will hang around through the weekend until plus temperatures return early next week.
