Catherine, the Princess of Wales, is undergoing chemotherapy treatments after being diagnosed with cancer.
In a video posted to social media on Friday, Catherine said she underwent major abdominal surgery in January — she didn’t say why — and it was thought her condition wasn’t cancerous.
“The surgery was successful, however tests after the operation found cancer had been present,” Kate said in the video. “My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy and I’m now in the early stages of that treatment.”
She didn’t say what kind of cancer she has.

The video came after weeks of speculation spread on social media about her whereabouts and health since she was hospitalized in January.
Kate, 42, hadn’t been seen publicly since Christmas until a video surfaced this week of her with her husband, Prince William, heir to the throne, walking from a farm shop near their Windsor home.
The princess said the diagnosis came as a “huge shock” to the couple, and they have taken time to focus on her recovery and on finding the best way to explain the diagnosis to their three children.
“As I’ve said to them, I am well and getting stronger every day by focusing on the things that will help me heal in my mind, body and spirits,” Kate said.
“Having William by my side is a great source of comfort and reassurance too, as is the love, support and kindness that has been shown by so many of you. It means so much to us both.”
Kensington Palace had given little detail about Kate’s condition beyond saying it wasn’t cancer-related, the surgery was successful and recuperation would keep the princess away from public duties until April.
Kate asked for “time, space and privacy” and thanked people for the messages of support she has received during her recovery.
“It has been an incredibly tough couple of months for our entire family, but I’ve had a fantastic medical team who have taken great care of me for which I’m so grateful,” she said.
Kate’s father-in-law, King Charles III, was diagnosed with cancer and started undergoing treatment in early February.
