A woman and her dog are recovering after being plucked off the roof of a half-submerged vehicle that went through the ice on Lac La Ronge.
According to the RCMP, officers got a call Friday just before 4 p.m., about the vehicle going through the ice. They were able to make contact with the driver, who told them she was sitting on the roof of the vehicle with her dog.
The Mounties used what they called “a remote piloted aircraft” to find the vehicle and called the 4th Canadian Rangers Patrol Group for help.
The Rangers responded and got the woman and her dog to shore; they weren’t seriously injured, but the woman was taken to hospital as a precaution.

“This is an excellent example of safety partners working quickly and seamlessly together in an emergency where rescue time was of the absolute essence. This interoperability is so important – even potentially life-saving in situations like this,” Sgt. Derek Eberle from the La Ronge RCMP said in a release.
“We’re grateful to the Rangers for their continued partnership. Their local knowledge and expertise are a tremendous asset to the La Ronge RCMP and the community in general. We’re also happy that the woman and her dog – though they had a very scary experience – are safe and sound.”
