Moose Jaw Wakamow MLA Greg Lawrence announced his resignation from the Saskatchewan Party caucus on Tuesday.
According to a four-sentence statement from the Government Caucus Office, his decision to resign comes as an “active police investigation is occurring into historical complaints unrelated to his duties as an MLA for Moose Jaw Wakamow.”
The statement didn’t outline the nature of those complaints. No other details were released.
The caucus office said Lawrence will sit as an independent MLA and is fully co-operating with the police investigation.
The statement also noted he had previously announced he wouldn’t be running in the next provincial election.
In August, Lawrence was hospitalized after a motorcycle crash in Moose Jaw.
Police in Regina and Moose Jaw and the RCMP did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Lawrence was first elected in 2011.
